The professional and personal challenges, the high and lows, the failures and the success?

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1800 past events in 120 countries around the world in 2014.

The non-profit organization is headquartered in Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in over 200 cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. Eric Morrow

Digital Marketing Consultant, Instructor and Author   |  

After working at a law firm for a year, Eric was hired by a small software company. He joined the marketing department and started learning about digital marketing for B2B. The company was acquired by IBM and he kept on with digital marketing at first SmarterQuestions.org and now IBMDatamag.com. He started "Digital Marketing for Everyone" to help entrepreneurs use digital marketing to acquire customers. Now he teaches in cities around the US and Europe.

Justin Briggs

Justin Briggs is an Oklahoma native and technology executive with experience developing and commercializing biotechnology, nanotechnology, and software products. Mr. Briggs leads operations and corporate development for Altheus Therapeutics, a venture-backed biotech company in Oklahoma City. Altheus is developing Zoenasa, a treatment for ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, and recently completed enrollment of a Phase 2 clinical trial - the furthest clinical development milestone ever reached by an Oklahoma company.
Justin is the founder Chorus Labs, a software company that creates tools for the modern workplace. Chorus Labs' first product, Baton (batonapp.com), was released in 2013 is available now on the web and soon to iOS and Android. Baton is an easy way to capture important thoughts and notes, then turn them into contextual messages to send to collaborators and coworkers, dramatically improving delegation and task management. Mr. Briggs also serves on the board of OhmSpace, Oklahoma City's own makerspace, is a mentor at the Oklahoma Proof of Concept Center at i2E, a founding member and former Chairman of IgniteOKC, and, last year, served as Chair of the Oklahoma Bioscience Roundtable. Justin has a degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Oklahoma, an M.B.A. in Finance with High Honors from Oklahoma City University, and holds multiple U.S. and international patents.

Ruth Burr

Head of SEO at Moz

Ruth Burr is the Head of SEO at Moz, a marketing analytics company that is also home to the web's most vibrant SEO community. Ruth has been working in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) since 2006. At Moz, she is responsible for building and executing SEO strategy for Moz.com and related sites, as well as internal SEO education and content creation. Her passions include data-driven decision making, solid, ongoing education for SEO, and integrating content, social media and technical strategies for inbound marketing. Prior to Moz, Ruth was the Senior Manager for Search Marketing at GameHouse.com, a division of RealNetworks. Ruth lives in Norman, OK.

Jeff Muehring

CTO and Co-Founder, NextThought, LLC

Jeff Muehring is CTO and co-founder of NextThought, a tech startup, founded in 2011 to develop a cutting-edge social learning platform. Integrating community, collaboration and multimedia content features into a single cloud-based application, the platform is used by clients in finance, education and non-profit organizations.
From 2000-2011, he was Head of Risk Applications at RiskMetrics (acquired by MSCI in 2010). He managed development of the platform and applications, which reported risk and other analytics on the portfolios of large financial institutions.
He received his BA in Liberal Arts from Lubbock Christian University and MS in Computer Science from Texas Tech University.

Mike Windham

Inventor, US Marine and CEO, New Spin 360 LLC

Mike Windham is an inventor, entrepreneur, and US marine. He is the creator and President of one of the most successful interactive media companies in the nation, providing fully immersive and interactive high definition spherical virtual photography, with over 1,800 clients spanning numerous industries. Through his leadership, his company has doubled revenue every year since its inception in 2006. His patented software applications are revolutionizing the future of communications and document management in various industries including the utility sector, oil and gas, and others.
